Minimalist Fertility - it's a thing


Hi Reader,

I realized the other day that I have been teaching fertility yoga for over 8 years and if you include my own fertility experiences - I have been immersed in this world for over 15 years.

And in those 15 years, I've noticed a few things.

πŸ’« A lot (and not so much) has changed with the medical side of this journey since I did my IVF treatments.

πŸ’« AND one thing that has not changed is the need for better, and more effective support outside of the doctor's office.

πŸ’« Even though awareness around fertility is improving, there is so much noise surrounding fertility now: Try this, try that, do this, don't do that, eat this, but NOT that, drink this tea and elixir, etc etc etc.

We OVERCOMPLICATE fertility.

Here's my pitch for a new way to approach boosting your fertility and enjoying life while you're TTC (aka - Fertile Freedom).

(Psst..This is a little window into what we talk about in the group coaching sessions during the 40 Days to Fertile Freedom Program).

The big over arching goal is that you fall pregnant and stay pregnant so that you can birth your beautiful baby.

We use the basics of minimalist practices and apply them to fertility.

This is how we get there faster while staying sane and not putting the rest of our lives on hold. Because you are SO MUCH more than your fertility ✨

1️⃣ Identify your core values when it comes to your fertility journey. Or in other words - what values do you want to maintain while you're navigating building a family?

  • Pick a word or phrase for this that you can carry with you. Write it in a journal, put it on a post it note
    • For example: BALANCE, TRUST, GRACE & GRATITUDE (this came from a former student!) FAMILY, EASE, RESPECT, LISTEN TO YOUR GUT, TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY & MENTAL HEALTH

2️⃣ Make Decisions for your fertility consciously & with purpose This refers to your belongings, time, energy, money, and relationships

  • Take a beat before making a decision and get out of reaction mode and into response mode
  • When you're making a decision, come back to your core values and see if the choice you are making is in alignment with your values
    • For Example: You talk to your doctor and they suggest you jump right back into a treatment after an unsuccessful cycle. Your core value is to take care of your body and mental health. You know moving right into another round of IVF would be overwhelming and when you listen to your gut, your body is telling you to pause. Instead of acquiescing to your doctor - you say "I'll take some time to think about it and get back to you"

3️⃣ Embrace Simplicity

How can you simplify your journey to reduce overwhelm and be purposeful with your actions. This means - no more running around like a headless chicken to do and try everything that has to do with fertility.

  • What practices do you find supportive AND enjoyable? Then remove the rest of the noise
  • Emphasize quality over quantity​

4️⃣ Declutter your possessions, thoughts, calendar, phone - everything!

  • What can you get rid of that you're holding onto that does not serve you now? We as humans love to hold onto things - plans, ideas, things, obligations, responsibilities, followers etc.
    • Reduce commitments
      ​
      This one is interesting and important - because dealing with fertility is a huge commitment on so many levels. It brings obligations as well (like blood tests & appointments). So how can you streamline and maintain the really important commitments so that they have your full attention. Often we over commit ourselves as a form of distraction.

    • Emphasize experiences over possessions ​
      Go out and live your life when you can! Plan the holiday, buy the ticket, take the hike, go for a bike ride. Be OPEN to what these experiences can bring you! You do not need another supplement, book on fertility, or google search. In fact, moving your body, breathing fresh air, having new experiences, being in nature are all fertility boosting things​

Minimalism is about creating spaciousness so that you can prioritize what is important for you, your fertility, your relationships, and how you want to live your life.

So good right?

But also not as easy as flicking a switch. It's a process and takes time.
