Discover Ayurveda's Fertility Secrets

Hi Reader,

This one is a bit on the longer side - but definitely worth your time and attention!

Lately, I've been talking a lot about Ayurveda and how amazingly supportive it can be for fertility! On podcasts (links below), in 1:1 sessions, with groups, and prepping for the On Fertile Ground Retreat (April 24 - 27 in Hillsborough NH).

Ayurveda can drastically change the trajectory of your fertility path.

Ayurveda is the longest continually practiced health system in the world - it has been practiced and studied for 5000 years.

It is the OG holistic medicine (and sister science to yoga).

It includes diet, biorhythms, herbal medicine, psychology, lifestyle, and therapeutic bodywork.

And when it comes to fertility, Ayurveda can help, A LOT.

Ayurveda is considered an 'upstream medicine', in that you are identifying root causes and also emphasizing disease prevention rather than treating symptoms when they arise.

There is no such thing in Ayurveda as 'unexplained infertility' or 'unexplained' anything. We believe everything can be explained.

In this case: Ayurveda sees unexplained infertility as the symptom and IVF as the treatment. However, you still will have that underlying imbalance and it will likely manifest into something else later down the road if not addressed.

Here's the good news - Ayurveda gives you the roadmap for becoming your most fertile self, whether you're doing IVF or not.

You already have the wisdom within you - we just need to re-remember and awaken to it.

Ayurveda can identify 'why' fertility isn't firing on all cylinders, figure out how to rebalance this based on your individual constitution and present imbalances, and then create balance through removing burdens.

Let's break it down.

1️⃣ Embracing your individuality: There is no one like you anywhere on earth.

From your dosha (your constitution at birth) to your present and past imbalances, you are soooooo different than everyone else.

You must be supported in a way that is fine tuned to your individuality.

Making blanket statements like everyone needs to drink 100oz of water a day or drink 'fertility tea' or take 'this fertility supplement' can actually not be supportive and is a waste of money and energy.

When we dive into Ayurveda the first thing that I do is try and determine your dominant dosha (Vata, Pitta, Kapha), but most importantly, I identify your present imbalance.

✨And then the magic begins ✨

We can then look at the layers of Ayurveda to bring your systems back in line with diet & nutrition, biorhythms, lifestyle, bodywork, and herbal support.

2️⃣ Removing Burdens: so nourishment reaches your fertility

All the tissues of your body are nourished by what you're taking in: food, water, breath, and all your senses.

BUT....your bodily tissues are not all fed equally.

Your body will always prioritize and send it's valuable resources to survival first (like blood, lymph, muscle, nervous system) before it nurtures reproductive tissues.

Your fertility is fed last. It's picking up the scraps.

Because reproductive tissues are at the bottom of the list, they are often first offline when the system is out of balance.

The body is working so hard everyday trying to maintain balance - so we want to help it! We want to take away the extra burdens that your body has to process so that it can nurture your fertility.

There are many effective ways to do this.

🌹 Reduce toxins that you're putting in or on your body.
🥣 Eat easily digestible and prana rich food (ie - real food!)
💧Assist your body to detox with lymphatic drainage support.
🛏️ Deep nurturing sleep.
😌 Process cortisol/stress reduction techniques
🌳 Movement.

The cool thing about the Ayurvedic concept of removing burdens is that there is no guilt when you eat that non-organic strawberry, or have a big piece of birthday cake with way to much frosting and artificial dyes!

You're not loosing all the work you've done up to that point, it actually means that because of all those healthy changes you've made (you're removing burdens most of the time), your body is better prepared to actually process the toxins it does come in contact with.

And it recognizes that you can't avoid all toxins in the world we live in.

It's not all or nothing and you do not need to be perfect to reap the benefits.

When the burdens are slowly removed over time - the nutrients and nourishment of the food you are eating will get to the reproductive organs and tissues.

PHEW! Congratulations you made through. I personally find it fascinating that this is ancient wisdom for modern fertility - and it is just as relevant!

Hi Reader, As we move into September, many people find themselves recommitting to their fertility. Whether that’s fertility treatments, lifestyle changes, or simply showing up differently for their bodies. These are the yoga poses I'm finding extra nourishing right now after a busy summer. I feel like I'm returning home to my body. I encourage you to slow down a bit, breathe, and create space in your life and your body. For your fertility but also for this transition to a new season. Why is...

Hi Reader, Summer's here and it's got me thinking about magic. The everyday magic that is happening around you all the time. The type that we can see and connect to when we start to pay a little more attention to our surroundings. Like the rose unfurling every morning, to the sparkle of the sun on the water - these are signs if you give them the opportunity to share their messages. I believe that this is one way we can connect to the joy around us. Especially during the fertility journey when...

Hi Reader, I realized the other day that I have been teaching fertility yoga for over 8 years and if you include my own fertility experiences - I have been immersed in this world for over 15 years. And in those 15 years, I've noticed a few things. 💫 A lot (and not so much) has changed with the medical side of this journey since I did my IVF treatments. 💫 AND one thing that has not changed is the need for better, and more effective support outside of the doctor's office. 💫 Even though...
