Hi Reader,
One important thing that I have learned over my many years of personal experiences with infertility and IVF, as well as 8 years of supporting those who are TTC is:
We love to OVERCOMPLICATE things (I mean we are human...)
We spiral down the google rabbit hole 🐇 in search of the 'one thing' that will be 'the thing' that will get us pregnant and keep us pregnant. It's exhausting and overwhelming. We're in information overload and things get complicated quickly.
In this approach we are looking for the solution OUTSIDE of ourselves.
And this is not the way to go.
To quote the fabulous Glinda the Good Witch - "You had the power all along, my dear".
I truly believe that we have the power to make profound and lasting changes to our fertility that start from within us.
One of the best ways to do this is to REMOVE some of the burdens from our bodies (the ones that we can control) so that our reproductive organs and hormones are nurtured.
Reproduction is always secondary to survival. So if your standard mode of operation is just keeping your head above water - then read on!
Here are my top 5 things to do for your fertility right now that are simple and inexpensive.
1️⃣ Sleep - your body, mind, soul, and your fertility need deep rest. If you're feeling depleted and exhausted from it all - choose rest over hustle (and another google search)
Action: Put your phones to bed at night in a different room. Really it's that simple - you've just got to doooooo it! If you use it for an alarm - I know you can find an alarm somewhere else - or if you insist on not letting your phone out of your sight - then AT LEAST 3 yards away from your head and body.
2️⃣ Move - get your bodies, blood, and energy moving my friends. All that blood flow and hip swaying is good for your reproductive organs, your soul, your mental health, and your heart.
Action: Go for a walk - so simple! Come to Fertility Yoga of course 🔆
3️⃣ Breathe - yep, I know you do it subconsciously, but I encourage you take purposeful deep breaths. They can reset your nervous system in moments, and allow you to be responsive not reactive. This is the best tool you can take with you into appointments at the clinic.
Action: take 10 mindful breaths throughout the day
4️⃣ Mind Check- What's your mindset? Are you working against yourself when it comes to fertility? Are your limiting beliefs about how this journey should be making you miserable, stressed out, and overwhelmed? Perfectionism and people pleasing are the bigs ones here! I have a whole podcast episode and blog on this topic!
Action: Take a moment to reflect on how your interactions are with others when you speak about your fertility. If you need to set some boundaries with friends or family around your fertility - then take this as a sign that it's time to do so!
5️⃣ Create Space for your baby - are you living the life that you want your child to live. If you're running around, stressing yourself out trying to do all the things - then you're too busy. Your Spirit Baby is looking down wondering where they are going to fit into your life.
Action: Slow down, say no to the stuff you really don't want to do (watch those people pleasing tendencies!) If you imagine running in a field of flowers with your child - go run in the flowers now or playing at the beach - go to the beach and play in the waves NOW 🌊
I know you know all of this - it isn't new information at all. The question is - are you actually doing it?
All of these simple (I never said easy!) behaviors are hard to change because not only do you have to form a new habit (which takes time), but you also have to let go of old habits (and that is HARD).
It takes effort and dedication - and support.
